Google Calendar is now live - Yes that's right Google Calendar is now alive and kicking, what do you think? Can it be sync'd with your Palm device yet. Thoughts in this thread in the forum.

Like all of the google web applications, it is a nice clean page. However for the Calander function, it does not a task function. I did not see where there was any capability to synchronize with a PDA or desktop calander. You can import your desktop calander, but only if its in a iCal or CSV format. And that is not the same as synch'ing.

I still prefer Yahoo Calander for my online calander. It does include a task function. I believe you can still sync your Palm Desktop to it, although I do not. I do connect to the calander site with my Treo and can check and edit calander/task items, and do that for public events I want to share with others I work with.

I think Google Calendar has a lot of potential. I mean, Google is such an institution on the internet that when they stick their toes into something, they're bound to have a huge effect. Why else would so many people jump on the Gtalk bandwagon so quickly, for example, when the client was still not well developed, less feature-ful, and had less users than Skype (for VoIP) and AIM, MSN, and Yahoo (for IM). The Google Calendar might not be as polished (yet) as, say, Yahoo Calendar or 30 Boxes, but the service as it is right now is pretty well built for an initial launch, and I think the fact that it's Google will draw a large number of users anyway, making it that much more useful (in terms of the social/sharing part).

Personally, I think it's part of Google's strategy to wean people off of Microsoft Office. Google recently began offering private domain Gmail services to corporations. The next obvious step would be email-intergrated calendaring, which is essential to businesses that currently rely on Outlook/MS Exchange.

In terms of Palm syncronization, I think it's only a matter of time. Once Google releases the API (if it hasn't done so already), expect such functions to come quickly, either from 3 party programmers or Google itself.

Tis pretty neat. Ima get a play in with it this weekend and see how well it can be. I liked Yahoo's calendar, but since I need syncing and don't like INtellisync, it had to be passed on. Oh well, maybe something will change and someone will make a calendar that works offline and online from one app that works easily with my Treo (think QuickNews meets KeySuite). That would be tops for me.

Today, I spent some time with Google Calendar. I imported my Palm calendar. For some reason, it did not import any repeating events like birthdays and anniversaries. So I added those and then went back and deleted everything that is on the US holidays calendar that I added. Pretty cool. Can't wait to see what functions they add later on. Til then, I will just maintain my Palm Calendar.

I've been working on a Google Calendar Palm Sync and I'm looking for some testers. If you are interested, email me at shawn [at] aimsniff [dot] com

I have a proof of concept done and I should have something worth testing by Sunday (4/23).

Just wanted to list my site for people to keep an eye on things: http://www.syncplicity.com The 4/23 date was a mistake. I've switched and rather than making something quick and dirty, I"m trying to create something versatile and useful. Should just be another week or two.

Easy Way to Sync Palm & Google Calendar Right Now:

Windows users can sign up for the free service at airset.com, which syncs Palms with its own calendar. Then just set up your airset calendar to subscribe to your Google Calendar(s). Works like a charm. Right now the feeds from Google Calendar (or any other external source) to airset are only updated once per day, but the site says it's working on a "refresh now" button.

I believe Apple/Palm users can just use the Missing Sync.
